Thermoplan AG, based in Weggis, has been the epitome of professional, high-quality coffee machines for the catering industry since the 1990s.

The machines are characterised by their high quality and reliability. Today, the world’s largest coffee house chains rely on fully automatic coffee machines from Thermoplan.

Convertible design solution
for specific customer approach

The Black&White4 “Competizione” once again impressively demonstrates how the seamless interplay between engineering, marketing, sales and design can shine.
These different disciplines were crucial to excelling at the Latte Art Championships in Copenhagen in June 2024.

With the formal revision and simultaneous possibility of customer-specific individualisation of the existing successful Black&White4 CTS machine to the “Competizione”, Thermoplan, together with the VETICA design team, has brought together the best of the barista and fully automatic coffee machine worlds to fully meet the high expectations of the barista community. Incidentally, it was the first time in the history of this official barista world championship that it was held with a fully automatic machine.

Click by click to the perfect cup of coffee

On the basis of a comprehensive analysis, we simplified the existing operating concept and optimised it to meet the needs of baristas and machine-owners. The machine’s innovative functions are also an integral part of the new user experience.

These functions ensure problem-free use in large-scale catering, offering a wide selection of coffees. The newly designed screen makes orientation even simpler and faster. This new graphical user interface (GUI) was developed using many different wireframes. For this, Vetica defined a comprehensive design guideline comprising the icons, fonts and colours required for programming the user interface.

A digital coffee-making masterpiece

Vetica’s GUI enables intelligent and intuitive operation in a way that puts the user’s needs centre stage (human-centred design). Whether it’s for a simple Americano or a cold latte macchiato with caramel flavour and extra foam, the self-explanatory menu enables users to conjure up their desired coffee in just a few clicks. Meanwhile, the owner of the machine is always kept informed about the machine’s current status. This helps avoid downtimes and enables the machine to be used as efficiently as possible. Thanks to the new GUI, this is easy to do without having to consult an instruction manual. As a result, Thermoplan provides a positive and forward-looking customer experience with its new generation of fully-automated coffee machines.
