Sigrist Photometer AG is a Swiss company that has been developing, producing and distributing high quality optical measuring instruments since 1946. These measuring devices for various liquids and gases, also known as photometers, are used to precisely measure and monitor parameters such as turbidity, colour, oil and other substances.
Initial situation
With its new product generation, Sigrist Photometer AG aimed to optimise the corporate product design and the complete handling of the devices with a new Graphic User Interface (GUI).
The products need to be able to measure all types of liquid precisely and reliably, while also being unobtrusive, straightforward and almost self-explanatory to use. The planned optimisations would create a new USP and strengthen Sigrist Photometer’s position in the market.
Corporate product design
Vetica collaborated with the Sigrist Photometer team to develop a new corporate product design and define practical design guidelines for the engineering team. Several products have been optimized, adapted and newly developed as a result in recent months.
A new, performance optimized interface
We developed different usage concepts to enable intuitive interaction with all digital elements when operating Sigrist products. Our UX and UI designers’ collaboration with the engineers at Sigrist Photometer resulted in a modernized operating concept, now integrated into all new measuring devices.
Thanks to the multilevel UI, devices can be checked and viewed in detail on site from a distance if required. The TurbiScat was the first product to be launched on the market with the new corporate product design, and has since served as a best practice example for subsequent solutions.
A new UI that makes optimal use of every display size
Together with the Sigrist team, Vetica defined the functional requirements for the new operating concept, including detailed user stories. The most frequent actions were prioritised: e.g. monitoring the sensor status, check the data and communication of warnings. This resulted in an optimised user flow to minimise the number of clicks required on the screen.
After various usability tests with an interactive prototype, the UX/UI team developed the new visual design for the user interface for all Sigrist products:
- A new colour palette (in a light and dark mode) to ensure maximum readability even on small screens and in outdoor areas.
- A modern, modular typography with different size scales depending on the device.
- New icons
Multi level UI for the entire portfolio
The synergy between UX/UI optimisation, rapid prototyping and the development of a modular product design system made it possible to optimise the entire user experience and at the same time significantly improve the efficiency of sensor monitoring and maintenance.
By working with VETICA in the field of industrial and GUI design, we were able to significantly increase the perception of the value and quality of our products. As a result, we are setting new standards in our industries and creating products that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. This not only has a positive effect externally, but also internally.
