Starting position

For 25 years the name Ypsomed has stood for high-quality injection systems for self-medication in diabetes care. The international Swiss medical technology company tasked us with developing an integrated product portfolio for the Ypsomed and MyLife brands.

The solution

From the first stage of development on, we wanted to enable people with diabetes to have a high degree of independence and a good quality of life. This being the case, simple, error-free ease-of-use and a standardised design language lay at the heart of product design development for our designers. The injection and meter systems had to not only give precise and safe measurements but, above all, be able to be used discreetly and simply in a self-explanatory way – just like a smart phone. Our work began with an analysis carried out with the help of international experts, focus groups and medical specialists. As a consequence, we developed usage concepts for an intuitive interplay of all elements.

The benefit

Several innovative products have emerged from the close collaboration of our designers with Ypsomed's engineers in recent years, which not only make patients' lives easier but have also found international recognition. In 2010 the injection device "ServoPen" and in 2013 the blood glucose meter "Unio" received the Red Dot Design Award.

The product design

When developing the design of technical medical products, we place patients at the heart of our creation. We have conceived several product innovations for the Ypsomed company to date. These products make life easier for a lot of people with diabetes – thanks to their compact shape, self-explanatory user technique and patented technologies. Finally, our developments go hand-in-glove with the core values of the brand and the target focus of our long-term strategy.
